Final Day of Bush Presidency Cause For Celebration As Border Agents Win Freedom
Years of Grassroots Activism on Unjust Conviction, Imprisonment Leads to Vindication
Lancaster, PA, (January 19, 2009) The Constitution Party, the country’s fastest-growing party (www.ballot-access.org) joins with hundreds of thousands of Americans across party lines who are celebrating President Bush’s sentence commutations of U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.(http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/19/bush.commute/index.html)
“The Constitution Party fought hard to win these men their freedom”, said Constitution Party National Committee Chairman Jim Clymer. “The horrendous miscarriage of justice meted out to two men who were doing their job to keep the border secure must never be repeated,” Clymer added, saying, “We never gave up on these men. We made it a rallying cry from the moment this nightmare began for them.”
Ramos and Compean were sentenced to 11 and 12 years, respectively, for shooting at an armed, convicted drug dealer who had driven a cross the U.S./Mexico border with a van filled with drugs.
Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin , appearing on CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight with Monic a Ramos, wife of imprisoned Border Patrol agent Ignacio Ramos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DyfFa0tZg) said, if elected, “ my first day in office will be Ramos and Compean’s last day in prison!”
Baldwin went on to say he would personally fire prosecutor Johnny Sutton for his part in putting these men behind bars.
Baldwin’s appearance on Lou Dobb’s Tonight was in conjunction with a National Press Club appearance in Washington, D.C., where former GOP presidential candidate Republican Congressman Ron Paul (TX) called for all liberty-minded Americans to vote for a third-party candidate.) http://onekit.enr-corp.com/1004422/index.html)
Rep. Paul endorsed Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin .
“We are thankful Ignacio and Jose will soon be able to put this horrific experience behind them,” said Clymer. “Let’s hope their story serves to remind us that Americans’ rights are vanishing all in the name of promoting a political agenda that both the Republicans and Democrats are pushing. Nothing can give these men the years they lost behind bars, but hopefully, their story will continue to outrage and lead to action!” Clymer added.
