VICTORY IN VALLEY PARK
"David overcomes Goliath" in Valley Park, MO.   A City Ordinance to prevent the hiring of illegal aliens prevailed in the small river city of Valley Park (a St. Louis County suburb).
VALLEY PARK, MO Jan 31, 2008— The U. S. District Court of Eastern Missouri today upheld a local Ordinance that will have national repercussions.
U.S. District Court Judge E. Richard Webber ruled in favor of an Ordinance that will prohibit the hiring of illegal aliens within Valley Park city limits. Under the new Ordinance, any Valley Park business employing illegal aliens will lose their business license.
“We couldn’t be happier with Judge Webber’s ruling,” said Donna Ivanovich, Chairman of the Constitution Party of Missouri. “Upholding this Ordinance will make it easier for cities across the country to pass similar laws.”
The court battle over the legality of the Ordinance has been described as a “David and Goliath” match up. “The ACLU brought in 22 high-powered lawyers and an unlimited budget to fight this Ordinance,” explained Ivanovich. “ Valley Park is a small town with limited resources. It took a lot of courage to take a stand against such a powerful opponent. The Missouri Constitution Party was determined not to let Valley Park fight alone. Not only is this Ordinance a blow to illegal immigration, it also affirms the principle of local self-determination. The Constitution Party sees both issues as vital.”
“I’m proud to say that the CPMO [Constitution Party of Missouri] stepped up to the plate. It was in the forefront of developing a legal defense fund for Valley Park ,” said Ivanovich. “The fundraising event that we sponsored brought in thousands of dollars. Our newsletters kept an interested public informed on the fight and the issues behind them.”
“It was time and effort well spent,” concluded Ivanovich.
Valley Park is a suburb located 20 miles west of St. Louis . Its population is about 7500.
