Missouri Legislators - More Power Than You Realize

This message delivered to Missouri State Legislators, Thursday, 27 January, 2022

You have more power than you realize! The states are stakeholders in a contract, the compact that created the Constitution. They are the final arbiters of that compact and when the rights of their respective Citizens are being violated by the general government, it is the duty of the states to interpose. The legal basis for its enforcement was clearly defined during the Ratification Debates, but that indispensable resource has been largely unknown for generations.

My name is Paul Venable and I am chairman of the Constitution Party of Missouri.  I am writing to express my concern over what is happening at the national level.  There are many who can identify the problems facing our nation and you who represent us in Jefferson City gather together to seek solutions for those concerns.  I do not believe our country has faced a more challenging time since the dawn of our Republic.  For this I have good news and bad news.

First the Good News.  There is a root cause to all of the issues we face, and it is non-compliance to the Constitution.  Do you disagree?  How much of what is coming out of Washington is constitutional.  Article I – Section 1:

“All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”
[emphasis added]

Is Congress jealously guarding its exclusive legislative authority or is it standing idly by as the Executive and Judicial branches create law?  And… is Congress working only within its delegated enumerated powers as authorized in the Constitution?

I think you know the answer to these questions.  Why is this good news?  Because by identifying the root cause, the root solution becomes obvious: FULL COMPLIANCE TO THE CONSTITUTION!

So, what is the bad news?  It is rampant constitutional ignorance.  It is ignorance on the part of the Citizens and those who serve us as a public trust.  While it may be a large challenge to overcome, it is urgently necessary, and it is with this communication that I hope to initiate the effort.

I have two things to share for now.  As mentioned earlier, the states have power to bring the federal government under control.  This seven-minute video illustrates this very well from the grass roots organization, Reclaiming the Republic.

This organization also publishes The Constitutional Minute, which is received by several other state legislatures.  In this link, you’ll find the Constitutional Minute from last March 28 2021, giving more details.  This may be a long read, but I ask that you give it reasonable consideration – this week, before the next one comes out.

May I conclude with these words from James Madison, widely regarded as the Father of the Constitution:

“The plain fact of the case, is that the Constitution of the U. S. was created by the people composing the respective States, who alone had the right; that they organized the Govt. into Legis. Ex. & Judicy. departs. delegating thereto certain portions of power, to be exercised over the whole, and reserving the other portions to themselves, respectively.”
